PEELLS PROVIDES EARLY LITERACY SUPPORT :

• Scientifically based reading research strategies to develop students’ phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, concepts of print, and oral language skills
• Enhanced classroom environments with literacy support materials, including classroom libraries, computers, and writing materials
• Weekly literacy coach support to teachers
• ESL support for students and teachers
• Family literacy workshops, monthly newsletters, and book guides
• Monthly take-home books for each child, coordinating with classroom themes
• Monthly professional development for teachers and assistants
• Graduate-level coursework in early literacy topics for participating teachers
• Summer transition program to prepare children for kindergarten
