Christopher Chin is Assistant Director for Research at The Literacy Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and an adjunct professor in VCU’s School of Education and Department of Psychology. Dr. Chin joined Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 and has served as principal investigator and evaluator on several early and family literacy projects, including three Early Reading First grants funded through the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Chin has also served as a consultant for several local and state literacy- and early childhood-related projects and initiatives, and is currently the chairman for the Evaluation and Accountability committee for the Governor’s Early Childhood Professional Development Taskforce.

Dr. Chin received his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Psychology and Neuropsychology from Georgia State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. He also completed a two year fellowship in Child Psychology at the Yale Child Study Center, Yale University School of Medicine in 2002. His recent research focuses on factors associated with reading problems and/or disabilities and classroom-based and family-based interventions designed to remediate and/or prevent reading failure (and related social, emotional and behavioral problems), particularly among young, disadvantaged children.
