Gail B. Newton is a Literacy Coach. She has worked for VCU in various capacities since 2007. During her career in education, she has served as a teacher, reading specialist, principal, Head Start Education Coordinator, Head Start Director, Assistant Superintendent, national and local consultant, and Acting Superintendent. As a classroom teacher, Dr. Newton won The Outstanding Young Educator Award from the local Jaycees. Her biography is included in Who’s Who In Education and in Outstanding Young Women In America. She is the author of several books including a children’s book and a learning game.
Dr. Newton received her Ed.D., M Ed., and Certificate Of Advanced Study from The College Of William and Mary. Her B.S. Degree was completed at VCU, and she began her college career at Richard Bland College. She has a Post Graduate Professional Certificate from the Virginia Department of Education with certification in reading, administration, and supervision positions. She is included on the list of eligible superintendents in Virginia.
