Valerie D. Parker is a Family Literacy Educator. She was previously employed with the City of Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. Valerie is grateful and humble to serve the Head Start families within Richmond Public Schools. Out of her vocational and volunteerism experiences Valerie’s most memorable and challenging were the two tenures spent with AmeriCorps as a reading coach (2002-2003), and team leader of nine reading coaches (2003-2004). Since 2004 she has served the needs of Northside families and staff as a member of the Friends of the Library Board for Richmond Public Library, North Avenue branch; and the Sunday School youth department at Fourth Baptist Church from 1996-2005. Her dream is for a Head Start division within all school systems across America that serves as a model for the world that education begins before Kindergarten and ensures no child [is] left behind.
A product of Richmond Public Schools, Ms. Parker received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University.
